10/5: Beyond No Means No and Yes Means Yes—Practical Consent Strategies with yandy

This interactive workshop familiarizes the audience with various theories and models of consent practice as they apply to any type of sexual, BDSM, or intimate interaction. Attendees will leave the workshop with clear and concise working models of a consent practice that is more nuanced than the traditional “no means no” or “yes means yes” frameworks, as well as concrete strategies for, and interactive practice in, applying these models to their own lives and sexual interactions.

Andy is a trans*human genderqueer event planner, attorney and activist working to provide benefits and protections to queer and polyamorous families, and educator around positive consent practices, community accountability, and family law, including at the National LGBT Bar Association Conference, the Woodhull Sexual Freedom Summit, Columbia University, New York University, Skidmore College, the Eulenspiegel Society, and other schools, conferences, and kink, polyamory, and LGBTQ groups. Andy is also a poet and writer and has been published by 24 Magazine, Sibling Rivalry Press, the Yes Means Yes blog, and Sock Drawer Press.

Current areas of nerdery include: sociolinguistics in technology-mediated communication, building the perfect vegan bootblack kit, integration of radical politics with legal pedantry, learning homesteading skills for when civilization collapses, and genderfucking your world. Current residence: NYC. Origin: Unknown, likely extraterrestrial.

10/12: Rope Basics with NerdcoreBecca

This is a crowd-driven 101 workshop based on the needs of the participants. Topics can include single- and double-column ties, basic arm and leg binders, ichinawa/connective rope, rope for people with zero rope skills (knotless rope), or just general discussions on ropey things. Nerdcorebecca has been tying and being tied for nearly 3 years and doesn't plan on stopping anytime soon.

10/26: Taking Your Time: Connective Tying with @DubiousLiasons

We discuss techniques for building and maintaining connection between the participants in a rope scene. The goal is to better give and take in scenes where we stay focused and immerse ourselves in tying sensually and with affection. We then will practice a variety of exercises together for tying in a slow, mindful and connective way. These activities assume little in the way of prior experience as the emphasis is on the participants themselves.

11/9: Kink, Disability, and PTSD with @SirGuy

The traditional images of BDSM and Kink show long lithe bodies with minimal body fat in tiny outfits accentuating muscular sinewy forms. The fact of the matter is that image represents a small percentage of the kink community. There are many who have disabilities, some invisible, others very visible. In addition to our physical limitations, many of us have suffered life traumas that have affected us in a variety of ways. It has recently been realized that many in the general population suffer from post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) as a result. How do we deal with our limitations and still enjoy kink and life? How do we help our partners do so? Sir Guy, a 9/11 first responder who himself deals with PTSD and other disabilities leads this discussion.

11/16: Discreet Public Erotic Role Play: How to Do It Safely and Get Away With It. With @EricPride

Public role play can turn a mundane evening into one of the hottest, most exciting dates of your life. Ever been curious about just what that couple across from you at the restaurant has going for them – why he’s laughing, she’s blushing and trying to hide her face? You wonder what exciting secret they share? It could be nothing but the ordinary – or it could be that he’s whispered to her many scintillating and wonderfully sexy tasks throughout their date. They are engaging in public role play – and while nobody is noticing, it will be a night she won’t soon forget.

In this class, Eric will discuss and demonstrate numerous aspects of public role play that have helped others take this delightful idea from fantasy to reality:
  • Why public role play, and how it can be used for fun and for sexy times
  • The importance of not being detected: How to make our public role play slip under the radar
  • Special situations and activities that lend themselves towards public role play
  • Sexing up your date: Public role play as a new and exciting experience
  • Being present in the moment and open to the unexpected
  • Managing and building a public role play scenario
  • The verbal dialogue and how to ask the right questions at the right time
  • Getting into the right mindset: How to build trust and connect with your partner on a deeper level
This class blends live demonstrations, interactive discussion, and also provides you with opportunities to practice some of the techniques. Eric and his model will show many public role play scenarios to illustrate the concepts and techniques.

The class is open to anyone, single or partnered.
